WWE Raw: Bobby Lashley Is Confident He’ll Get His Match Against Brock Lesnar
Brock Lesnar regained the Universal Championship earlier this month, and there are several WWE Raw superstars who have a case for being the next man to dethrone “The Beast”. Though Bobby Lashley isn’t currently in the conversation, he is confident he’ll eventually get a chance to face Lesnar, whether it’s for the title or not.
Last month, Bobby Lashley turned heel on WWE Raw by viciously attacking Kevin Owens’s knee post-match, allowing WWE to write Owens off of television. With the brilliantly annoying Lio Rush by his side, Lashley has become a much more engaging character on Raw, and he’s currently focused his rage on Finn Balor.
But long-term, the feud many wrestling fans want to see if Lesnar vs. Lashley, as it’s one of the few interesting feuds left for Lesnar in WWE. Lesnar is now arguably the most despised wrestler in the promotion because of how he was portrayed in his first run as Universal Champion, and that characterization of Lesnar, who is now feuding with UFC’s Daniel Cormier in addition to Raw babyface Braun Strowman, hasn’t changed.
In an interview with SPORTbible, Lashley spoke about the possibility of him feuding with Lesnar, and he remains interested in a program with “The Beast Incarnate”. He told SPORTbible that the he believes the match will eventually happen, largely because he sees how vocal the WWE Universe has been about wanting to see this match.
"“I can post anything on social media and the people will reply we wanna see you and Brock, it’s something that has been building for the last 10 years so eventually it’s gonna happen because the fans want it to happen that bad.”"
It seemed like Lashley had an outside chance at facing Lesnar at SummerSlam, because he did defeat Roman Reigns at Extreme Rules. However, Reigns pulled a more recent win against Lashley back on an episode of Raw, and he eventually won the title at SummerSlam in heart-warming fashion after Strowman’s welcome interference with the Money in the Bank briefcase.
Lashley’s MMA background, who is 15-2 as a fighter with an undefeated record in Bellator, gives him, as he said in a Raw promo, “legit tools” to beating Lesnar. Given that both men are heels, it is more likely for Lashley to challenge Lesnar in a non-title match, but WWE can work out the dynamic. Plus, Rush’s emergence would give this rivalry yet another wrinkle, as Rush could trade verbal blows with wordsmith Paul Heyman.
