WWE Mixed Match Challenge Winners Will Receive Upper Hand At Royal Rumble
Today, WWE announced that the winners of the second season of the WWE Mixed Match Challenge will receive desirable leverage at the upcoming Royal Rumble pay-per-view.
WWE announced earlier today that the winners of the WWE Mixed Match Challenge Season 2 will receive two rewards for their hard work: The No. 30 entry in their respective Royal Rumble matches and an all-expenses paid vacation to anywhere in the world.
For those unaware of the Royal Rumble match conditions, 30 wrestlers enter the ring one at a time, with the goal of eliminating competitors by tossing them over the top rope, where they are eliminated if both feet land on the floor. Traditionally, the winners of the Royal Rumble matches get a championship match at WrestleMania. The 2018 Royal Rumble held the very first women’s Royal Rumble match.
This new Royal Rumble prize is an important one, as it will give the winners the coveted No. 30 entry, placing them last and most rested to enter the Royal Rumble match, and the most likely to win the free-for-all.
For the first season, the winners of the Mixed Match Challenge received $100,000 to give to the charity of their choosing. The difference between the prizes is stark.
There were other changes made to this season’s Mixed Match Challenge tournament. Instead of an elimination bracket, this season, the winner is decided by a round robin-style bracket.
The season consists of 14, 30-minute episodes featuring two matches, where teams can build a “record”. The two teams with the best record will advance to the finals, which will take place at TLC: Tables, Ladders, and Chairs on Dec. 16.
The current standings are listed as below:
Raw
Moon/Strowman 3–0
James/Lashley 3–0
Bayley/Bálor 2–2
Fox/Mahal 0–3
Natalya/Owens/Roode 0–3
SmackDown
Asuka/Miz 3–0
Flair/Styles 3–0
Naomi/Uso 2–2
Carmella/R-Truth 0–3
Lana/Rusev 0–3
Based on the news from WWE, the results of the Mixed Match Challenge could totally reshape the road to WrestleMania.
The Royal Rumble will take place Jan. 27, 2019 in Phoenix. WWE’s Mixed Match Challenge takes place Tuesdays immediately after SmackDown on Facebook Watch.
