WWE 5 Burning Questions: Why Did Daniel Bryan Turn?

5. Why was Rusev not picked for the Survivor Series team?
Now that Daniel Bryan is your new WWE champion (more on that later), team Blue needed a new member in its lineup. We learned later that Jeff Hardy would be the final member of team SmackDown Live. Now, I have nothing against Jeff. He is still every bit of that fun, energetic and charismatic daredevil. He can pull off an amazing spot every now and then.
But the more we see him in the ring, the more we realize that Jeff’s body has taken a toll and he is slowing down as time goes on. One can understand the logic of placing him in a tag team environment so that he can excel. But why spend such a potentially star making opportunity on a veteran like Jeff. Why not someone like Rusev or Andrade ‘Cien’ Almas?
Now there was indeed a match between Cien and Jeff Hardy which Hardy won. But why didn’t creative use that opportunity to catapult Cien into the Survivor Series match? It would have been a nice showcase for him. However, the real victim here is Rusev, who is, after yet another phase of getting over with the crowd, sitting with nothing to do come Survivor Series.
Why not put Rusev against Almas to see who would make it as the final member of the team? There has been no sign of the Lion of Bulgaria since that horribly botched breakup of Rusev Day.
