WWE Survivor Series 2018: Betting Lines for the Nov 18th PPV

facebooktwitterreddit

WWE Survivor Series will air live on the WWE Network on Sunday, November 18th. This article will do a deep dive into the betting odds heading into the event to discuss what could happen. Because betting odds are right more often than they are wrong, anyone who wishes to remain spoiler free should stop reading now!

How To Read American Betting Odds

For my articles on Daily DDT, I will use American betting odds. I’ll also provide some examples of fractional odds conversion for those who may use another system. Below, I provide an overview of how to read and interpret American betting odds:

Favorites: Will be marked with a “-” in front of the number. The number essentially represents how much money would need to be bet in order to win $100. For example, if a team/competitor is listed as “-500”, the bettor would need to wager $500 for a chance to win $100. Thus, the bigger the number the more heavily favored someone is. -500 = 1/5 in fractional odds.

Underdogs: Will be marked with a “+” in front of the number. The number essentially represents how much money a bettor would win if they bet $100. For example, if a team/competitor is listed as “+200”, the bettor would need to wager $100 for a chance to win $200. Thus, the bigger the number, the more heavy an underdog someone is. +200 = 2/1 in fractional odds.

Understanding Implied Odds

One way to quickly translate betting odds is to understand how they convert to implied odds. I’ve included a list of popular betting lines below alongside their implied odds.

WWE Survivor Series: Betting Odds

Odds as of 10/31/2018 at Oddshark.

Ronda Rousey (-560) vs. Charlotte Flair (+370)

Seth Rollins (+145) vs. Shinsuke Nakamura (-185)

Brock Lesnar (-300) vs. Daniel Bryan (+220)

Men’s 5v5 Survivor Series Match: Team Raw (-170) vs. Team Smackdown (+130)

Women’s 5v5 Survivor Series Match: Team Raw (+170) vs. Team Smackdown (-230)

Tag Team 5v5 Survivor Series Match: Team Raw (+220) vs. Team Smackdown (-300)

AOP (-230) vs. The Bar (+170)

Buddy Murphy (-210) vs. Mustafa Ali (+160)

Kevin’s Thoughts: By my count, there are 7 matches that will pit Raw vs. Smackdown. This should result in a 4-3 win either way for one side as last year’s commentary was big on counting the results as the night went along. As it stands currently, 4 of Raw’s matches are pointing to wins compared to 3 of Smackdown’s.

Ronda Rousey vs. Charlotte Flair is likely the main event, which would break the (hypothetical) 3-3 tie. I can’t really imagine a scenario where WWE would allow one brand to really break away into a 5-2 or 6-1 win, so the only way the favorites go down in this event is if they trade off. For example, if you think Seth Rollins may overtake Shinsuke, then you have to flip another matchup in Raw’s favor. At present, I don’t see any matches that may flip. Brock Lesnar seems to be a lock over Daniel Bryan (not sure why these odds are so low compared to Ronda). I suppose you could give Seth Rollins the win and flip AOP, but I think it’s better to establish AOP as legitimate threats.

Shane McMahon winning the world cup was supposed to set up some sort of Survivor Series angle. Maybe Shane McMahon turns on his team and goes over to Raw to run Smackdown with Stephanie? While it is hard to say, what is easier to say at this point is that Raw looks to be pretty heavy favorites going into Sunday unless something changes.

Kevin’s Best Bet(s)

First, a recap from WWE Crown Jewel

Bet 1: Brock Lesnar def. Braun Strowman ($100 to win $250) – WIN

Bet 2: World Cup, Seth Rollins vs. The Miz is the finals ($100 to win $350) – LOSS

Bet 3: The Bar def. The New Day ($333 to win $100) – WIN

Kevin’s Bank: 7-2, +$808.00

Results: The favorites went a 7-2 at Crown Jewel. Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Rusev was added after my article but Shinsuke opened as a massive -900 favorite. The World Cup was one of the more confusing events I’ve ever seen play out. Either way, Seth Rollins did not make it to the finals so that was graded as a loss anyway. Several sportsbooks also graded “Dolph Ziggler vs. The Miz” as a loser thanks to Shane McMahon’s interference. Thus, another warning of why it’s dangerous to bet on WWE.

Next, my best bets for WWE Survivor Series:

Bet 1: All Raw and Smackdown Favorites* ($100 to win $955)

*In order for this bet to be graded as a winner, all 7 Raw and Smackdown matches have to go towards the favorites without any losers. If 1 match is graded as a loser, the entire bet is lost.

Bet 2: Brock Lesnar def. Daniel Bryan ($300 to win $100)

Bet 3: Buddy Murphy def. Mustafa Ali ($210 to win $100)
