NXT Takeover War Games 2: Results, Review, and Analysis

NXT airs its second Takeover event headlined by the absolutely hellacious War Games match. Undisputed Era will take on War Raiders, Pete Dunne, and Ricochet inside the double-cage, and Velveteen Dream will challenge Tommaso Ciampa for the NXT Championship.

Last November, NXT brought back the infamous War Games match – two rings inside one massive cage, with teams flying between them to inflict as much damage as possible. Tonight, NXT airs its second installment of the NXT Takeover: War Games pay-per-view, and the action is again slated to be twice as epic.

Undisputed Era, comprised of Adam Cole, Roderick Strong, Bobby Fish, and Kyle O’Reilly, will take on only a short list of people who they’ve pissed off – War Raiders, the North American Champion Ricochet, and UK Champion Pete Dunne. This passed Wednesday, Undisputed Era won a one-man advantage over Team Had Enough.

UE has also had the privilege (if you will) of partaking in the War Games match last year. Will that factor, plus their man-advantage, make a win for the stable inevitable, or will UE finally find they’ve stepped on one-too-many toes?

NXT Champion Tommaso Ciampa will take on crowd-favorite Velveteen Dream for NXT’s top prize. Tommaso Ciampa has been nearly unstoppable since winning the NXT Championship; is Velveteen Dream finally the hero we need to take Ciampa down?

Speaking of heroes, former NXT golden boy Johnny Gargano seems to now have both feet firmly on the dark side, and after revealing himself as the one who blindsided Aleister Black, the two will finally face off tonight.

This match is my pick to tell the best story of the night, and even though it’s not for a championship belt, there is a lot riding on the outcome of this match. Has Johnny Gargano really gone off the deep end, and what would a win over Aleister Black truly mean for NXT?

Shayna Baszler is once again the NXT Women’s Champion after a nefarious win at WWE Evolution over Kairi Sane. Sane wasted no time invoking her rematch clause, and the two will take part in a Two Out Of Three Falls Match, with the winner walking out with the championship.

It’s a Takeover, ladies and gentlemen, and to miss out in it is to miss out on some of the best (if not the best) wrestling WWE has to offer. The pre-show airs live on the WWE Network tonight at 6:30 PM/3:30 PM if you’re in the audience in Los Angeles, and the main show begins at 7PM.
