WWE Announces NXT UK TakeOver: Blackpool For January 2019

NXT UK has become must-see television on the WWE Network with several consecutive weeks of great shows, and the hype has only increased with the announcement of NXT UK TakeOver: Blackpool in two months.

This weekend in Liverpool, WWE has been taping its next episodes of NXT UK, which figure to take the rising brand to the next level. A United Kingdom Women’s Champion was crowned at the inaugural set of tapings, and fans just saw Toni Storm, the Mae Young Classic 2 winner, and Rhea Ripley punch their tickets to the finals on the most recent episode of NXT UK.

Even more exciting times are ahead for WWE’s newest brand, because at NXT Liverpool, Triple H made his huge announcement. As many fans correctly predicted, NXT UK will have a TakeOver Special on January 12, 2019.

WWE UK’s Twitter account tweeted confirmation of this news.

And Tegan Nox is just as hyped as all of us in the WWE Universe.

This is exciting news, and I’m sure wrestling fans are buzzing about this TakeOver special. Wrestling fans in the United Kingdom are among the most passionate in the world (perhaps the most passionate, as evidenced by the episodes of Raw and SmackDown that are taped in Manchester), and NXT UK TakeOver: Blackpool should be as special as any of the previous NXT TakeOver specials.

Thus far, NXT UK has been a rousing success for WWE, which is looking to continue its glocalization of wrestling. The UK is its first branching point, and the early success of NXT UK in an area of the world where wrestling is immensely popular will likely encourage WWE to continue its efforts to spread across the world.

There’s also speculation that WWE could be opening a UK Performance Center, which would be a wise move and would go hand-in-hand with their strategy to develop talent worldwide.

With Pete Dunne as the longest-reigning champion in WWE, either Ripley or Storm leading the women’s division, and a bevy of incredible talents like Jinny and Jordan Devlin on the roster, TakeOver: Blackpool and the upcoming NXT UK tapings should be incredible. Every week, the show’s main event delivers, whether it is Storm vs. Jinny, Devlin vs. El Ligero, Dunne vs. Danny Burch, or Noam Dar vs. Zack Gibson.
