NXT: Johnny Takeover Shirt Sold Out Before Takeover Even Began
Johnny Gargano got a new “Johnny Takeover” shirt to match his darker new attitude, and the NXT Takeover: War Games crowd bought them out before the pay-per-view even began.
Unless you live under a rock or simply don’t watch NXT at all, you’d know by now that Johnny Gargano, the once buoyant underdog of NXT, has been taking a trip down to the dark(er) side for a few months now.
To reflect this change, of course, WWE and NXT had to begin marketing some new merchandise for Gargano, who no longer really goes by the Johnny Wrestling moniker we all new and loved, at least on TV. Enter Johnny Takeover, who’s black and yellow shirt made its debut at the Staples Center before NXT Takeover: War Games 2.
As we found out today from Mr. Takeover today himself, that shirt went on to completely sell out before the bell even rang for the first match.
Since the shirt was so popular, it is now available on the WWE Shop so the wealth can be spread far beyond just Los Angeles. You can be that I, Chelsea Marcus, #1 Johnny Gargano Apologist, bought it about a half an hour after Johnny posted that on his Instagram.
Now, Johnny Gargano has always been a hit with the NXT crowd, but in my humble opinion, having your shirt sell-out before the pay-per-view even begins is a pretty big indicator that you’re probably more popular than ever, am I right?
WWE and NXT seem like they’re both entering the era of the anti-hero, which could explain how the Staple Center completely took to this new merchandise. The performers with the more questionable and grey moral compasses seen to be making their way to the forefront, and they’re as over as you can get with crowds.
I mean, the only way your shirt sells out in, what, an hour and a half, is if you’re over, right?
