4. What is next for Heath Slater?
Heath Slater and Rhyno were forced to fight each other this week, courtesy of the General Manager elect Baron Corbin. The winner will get to keep his job and the loser would be fired. Essentially, this might have been a way to write Rhyno off after one entertaining run, which started when he and Slater teamed up to become the inaugural SmackDown Live tag team champions.
Talk about a storyline that got fans invested and the talent involved massively over. It was a true testament to Slater’s charisma. Back in the ring this past Monday, the two partners were asked to fight each other to save their job. Slater picked up a win courtesy of a surprise neck breaker and was safe for the time being. Or so he though.
Corbin would then tell Slater that he gets to be a referee from now on and not an in-ring performer. A surprised and bewildered Slater looked on in confusion (so do we). But nevertheless, this could be the beginning of yet another entertaining chapter in Heath Slater’s weird career trajectory. How will he fare as an official? Will he mess up in his job or be an impartial referee? It would be quite the scene if during a big money match, the referee gets knocked out and Slater comes on as the replacement official to stir up a big controversy. Hell, I would chime in for that to happen at TLC; a move that will eventually cost Corbin his potential General Manager role.
