Mustafa Ali Facing Daniel Bryan On WWE SmackDown Is Everything We Begged For
205 Live has been experiencing something of a renaissance as of late. WWE have been making more of an effort to showcase the purple brand on its major main roster programs – including Super Show Down and Survivor Series, more recently – and tonight, the brand is taking a big step in its revival.
With less than a couple of hours to go before SmackDown goes Live on the USA Network at 8:00pm, WWE made a huge breaking news announcement. Tonight, the WWE Champion Daniel Bryan will be in action, but not against a member of the SmackDown roster. Instead, he will go one on one for the first time ever against The Heart and Soul of 205 Live: Mustafa Ali.
For those who are not so familiar with who he is, Mustafa Ali has enjoyed his place on 205 Live as the show’s resident workhorse.
This year, the retired police officer made his PPV debut at none other than the Grandest Stage of Them All – WrestleMania – in a losing but show stealing effort against Cedric Alexander in the finals of the Cruiserweight Championship Tournament. 2018 has seen the Chicago native put on some of the year’s best matches on a brand that few watch.
Those who have seen the show know that Ali has been highlighted as one of the WWE’s best athletes among its roster.
Longtime fans of 205 Live have been begging for WWE to put a bigger spotlight on its tremendous Cruiserweight division, and tonight, the show will have its biggest main roster showcase to date. Hopefully, WWE will continue to create opportunities like this for its Cruiserweights after tonight.
In his SmackDown Live debut, Mustafa Ali is surely expected to have another impressive outing in the biggest challenge of his career yet against WWE Champion and former Mania headliner “The New” Daniel Bryan.
