The Dec. 11th edition of WWE SmackDown was the final chance for the blue brand to showcase itself before this coming Sunday’s TLC pay-per-view, the final pay-per-view of 2018 in the WWE.

Last night’s WWE SmackDown built on the current storylines in place quite well leading into TLC, and even added one key match to the card this Sunday in the form of a chairs match.

There is plenty to look forward to in regards to the blue brand heading into TLC and the new year in general.  With that being said, let’s take a look at a few grades from the Dec. 11 edition of WWE SmackDown.

5. Opening Segment

‘The New’ Daniel Bryan has taken the WWE by storm over the past few weeks, showing fans a completely different side of one of the most beloved babyfaces in WWE history.  Now, this new heel version of Daniel Bryan is preachy, stuck-up, and anti-fan oriented.

He has backed it up lately, however, with the WWE Championship around his waist. Bryan will defend his title against former champion AJ Styles at TLC this coming Sunday.  But in the meantime, Bryan had quite a bit to deal with last night in an unexpected battle with 205 Live’s Mustafa Ali.  Before that, however, Bryan had plenty to say on the mic to open up the show.

Bryan gave his usual speech regarding the fans polluting the earth and how fickle they all are, but things really got going once Ali came out.  He asked the question on most everyone’s mind, what happened to Bryan?  Instead of answering that question, Bryan tried to convince Ali to not have the match that was scheduled because the fans don’t deserve to see two great superstars like Bryan and Ali compete.

However, Ali said he will do what the old Daniel Bryan would have done, fight.  Bryan then told Ali he was too little of a man to drive an SUV before slapping the taste out of his mouth.  Ali turned things back around just before the two began their match.  This was a very good segment that really stood out.  Ali’s work during the segment is what put it over the top, and it brought out the best in Bryan’s new character.

Things started out as the status quo, but once Ali intervened, this segment turned into a very memorable one.
