WWE: New Call-Up EC3 Already Has His Eyes On John Cena

EC3 is among the newest NXT call-ups to the WWE main roster, and while it’s unclear which brand he’ll debut on, he’s already got his eyes focused on John Cena, whose presence isn’t restricted to a particular brand.

John Cena, who recently won the Muhammad Ali Legacy Award, recently announced his upcoming holiday schedule on Twitter, which has been the subject of plenty of articles over the past few months. Cena hasn’t appeared on WWE television in several months, and his last full appearance was at WWE Super Show-Down, when he teamed up with then-babyface Bobby Lashley to defeat Elias and Kevin Owens.

Though Cena is likely aiming to win a record-breaking 17th WWE Championship in 2019 after coming up short twice this year by losing in the Elimination Chamber and in a Six-Pack Challenge at Fastlane, he may get sidetracked by the young and hungry EC3.

One of WWE’s upcoming NXT call-ups after Vince McMahon promised fresh changes for the WWE Universe on this week’s episode of Raw, EC3 has teased confrontations with Cena in the past.

Dixie Carter’s nephew (yes, I do like bringing that up) sent a tweet in response to Cena’s schedule announcement, simply stating that he will see Cena “around”. And as my colleague Chelsea Marcus said, and so it begins…

EC3 vs. Cena is a dream feud for many fans, and the comparisons aren’t difficult to understand. The two physically impressive wrestlers are among the best talkers in wrestling, as EC3 made a name for himself with his quick wit and entitled attitude with Impact Wrestling. On NXT, EC3 has already shown that he “gets it”, noticing small details in his character work and interactions with the audience that others are still understanding in “developmental”.

WWE fans have believed that EC3 was ready for the main roster before even signing with the company, but it was still awesome to watch him briefly stand out in NXT. He was a key participant in the breath-taking ladder match at NXT TakeOver: New Orleans, bumping around like a champ and showing why his wrestling ability often goes under-appreciated.

Now, EC3 and Cena are unlikely to feud in the near future, but there will almost certainly have a heated program one day. There’s little doubt that EC3 has the potential to be a true star in WWE, and he is one of the few superstars who could hang with Cena on the mic. These two entertainers also know how to play to the crowd when the bell rings, so it’s awesome to see that EC3 is already jumping on every opportunity to plant seeds for their future confrontation.
