ROH Wrestling: Shane Taylor Signs Exclusive Deal For 2019
Shane Taylor has been an important part of Ring of Honor Wrestling, and he announced that he’s signed an exclusive contract with ROH for 2019.
With Cody Rhodes, the Young Bucks, Hangman Page, and Marty Scurll set to depart ROH, presumably for their new venture “All Elite Wrestling”, one of the largest wrestling promotions in the world is tasked with both restocking its roster and keeping its current crop of stars.
After signing PCO and Bandido, two of the biggest names in independent wrestling, to recent contracts, ROH have inked current star Shane Taylor to an exclusive contract for 2019.
Taylor announced the move on his Twitter account this morning.
A popular wrestler among ROH fans, Taylor has been a menacing enforcer, but he’s lost a few marquee matchups in recent months. Cody, Jeff Cobb, EVIL, Jay Lethal, Hangman Page, and David Starr have defeated Taylor, but the fact that he’s been in the ring with some of the biggest talents in wrestling bodes well for him.
Next year could be a big one for Taylor, and hopefully ROH is committed to pushing wrestlers like him who have been loyal to the company. He has plenty of talent and has always been a capable member of the roster with an intriguing character, but it’s all up to ROH to use him to his full potential. That’s been a big criticism of ROH, but perhaps this contract is a step in the right direction for the promotion.
Because ROH’s biggest stars are leaving next year, it puts the onus on them to start helping their talent get to the next level. The ROH/NJPW show at Madison Square Garden will be a huge part of that, as will young stars like Bandido. Pushing the Women of Honor division is a MUST for ROH, and they’ve slowly made steps towards progressing an important part of their brand.
Taylor will hope to become an important part of the Ring of Honor brand this year, too, and it’s awesome to hear news of this signing. This could be big for Taylor, who will have his sights set on earning a championship, with perhaps a little bit of revenge against Cobb being on his mind. Sometimes it feels like it’s Taylor against the world, but the Cleveland native has the chops to fight this uphill battle and maybe even grab some gold for himself.
