7. Kairi Sane Wins the NXT Women’s Championship at TakeOver: Brooklyn

Kairi Sane is one of the best wrestlers in the world, woman or man. And ever since her win in the first Mae Young Classic, she’s been in a rivalry with Shayna Baszler.

In the build-up to NXT TakeOver Brooklyn IV, the two were locked in the middle of their rivalry when Baszler was determined to destroy everyone else in the NXT Women’s Division, making the Pirate Princess a surprisingly intense protector in return. Prior to TakeOver: Brooklyn, Kairi made a promise to Shayna that she could beat her. She had before, she could do it again.

The match at Takeover proved to be an intense and rough affair, with Baszler and Sane going back and forth with blows and holds. In the final moment though, Baszler’s infamous Kirifuda Clutch was reversed by Sane into a pin. One, two, three and the belt was Sane’s. Her promise came true. She beat Baszler and her sudden and happy tears were ours, too.

While Sane’s reign was unfortunately short, especially in terms of how long women’s champions in NXT reigned, it’s important to remember one thing: Sane has beat Baszler twice all on her own. The past two times Baszler has beat Sane, she couldn’t do it without her horsegirls.
