3. SummerSlam

The biggest party of the summer has been SummerSlam since the pay-per-view’s debut all the way back in 1988.  This summer staple of the WWE has been one of the company’s most consistently-good pay-per-views for years, and that trend continued in 2018.

The 2018 version of SummerSlam was a loaded card filled with several anticipated battles.  The show’s opening match of Seth Rollins vs. Dolph Ziggler was outstanding and arguably the duo’s best match of 2018 together, resulting in Rollins regaining the Intercontinental Championship.  The New Day vs. The Bludgeon Brothers for the SmackDown Tag Team Championship was good, but a bit too short and it featured a non-finish of sorts.

Braun Strowman vs. Kevin Owens was just a squash match.  The SmackDown Women’s Championship match featuring Carmella, Charlotte Flair, and Becky Lynch was very good and it saw not only Charlotte win the title, but Lynch turn heel in one of the biggest moments of 2018.  AJ Styles vs. Samoa Joe was very good with Styles retaining his title despite getting DQ’d.  The Miz vs. Daniel Bryan was also very good in its own right, even with a shady finish.

The return of The Demon version of Finn Balor was awesome to see, as was his quick win over Baron Corbin.  Shinsuke Nakamura defeating Jeff Hardy to retain his United States Championship was pretty good, but didn’t really stand out.  Ronda Rousey capturing the Raw Women’s Championship from Alexa Bliss was short, but it needed to be.  Then finally, seeing Roman Reigns defeat Brock Lesnar to become Universal Champion in the main event was a sight for sore eyes.

Overall, this was a great show that really didn’t feature any real negatives and it ranks among the best pay-per-views of 2018.
