10. Survivor Series
As one of the big four pay-per-views in the WWE, Survivor Series has a lot of history and tradition to live up to year in and year out. It’s been considered one of the best pay-per-views for the better part of 30 years, but in 2018, it didn’t quite live up to that standard.
Survivor Series has been a platform for brand wars between Raw and SmackDown in recent years, and that theme continued in 2018. However, despite the blue brand winning the opening pre-show match against the red brand in a 10-on-10 tag team elimination match, the WWE never counted it in the final tally of wins and losses. Team Raw defeated Team SmackDown in the women’s elimination match to open up the main card in a solid match.
The red brand continued its dominance in the following matches when Seth Rollins defeated Shinsuke Nakamura in a good match, AOP knocked off The Bar in a pretty good match that was ruined by a terrible finish, and Team Raw defeated Team SmackDown in the men’s elimination match that was a bit of a booking mess. Ronda Rousey also defeated Charlotte Flair via disqualification after Charlotte attacked her with a kendo stick.
Universal Champion Brock Lesnar was taken to his limits against WWE Champion Daniel Bryan, but The Beast Incarnate still managed to get the win, wrapping up Raw’s 6-0 clean sweep over SmackDown. This was a solid show in terms of in-ring action, but the booking just made no sense in a few aspects, which hurts this show’s overall perception.
Having the blue brand lose every match, despite winning one and it not counting, was a strange decision in a night filled with several strange decisions.
