3. Jay Lethal vs Will Ospreay for the ROH World Championship – Death Before Dishonor

A battle between two of my personal favorites is sure to be a great match, right? Still, this match brought out the best in both individuals and their similar wrestling styles made for an excellent showcase for the ROH World Championship.

Will Ospreay is one of the most talented wrestlers on the planet right now. His high-flying moveset is one of the most unique in the world of pro wrestling today.  Although he doesn’t compete much in ROH, Will answered a “Lethal Challenge” issued by the champion and stated he wanted to take ROH on his back. But did the NJPW staple have enough in the tank to back up hid word?

Some were surprised to see Jay Lethal regain the ROH World Championship this past year, but Jay Lethal has put on some of his best matches as of late. This match with Ospreay was by far his best this year.

The match began with an electric sequence of kicks, counters, and near misses that set up quickly into a superb contest of high flying and aggressive kicks between two of the best in the business today.

Will Ospreay opted for more of a hard-hitting and aggressive approach in this match than he has in prior contests as he looks to move from the Junior Heavyweight division in New Japan to the Heavyweight division.

This match was just as physical inside the ring as it was outside. There were numerous barricade shots with each man diving through the middle ropes onto the other as well as shenanigans with the ROH Title.  Will Ospreay hit an OsCutter and looked to have won this match, but Lethal kicked out at 2.9 and would then hit a Lethal Injection for the win.

While Ospreay won’t be leaving NJPW anytime soon, I would love to see him in Ring of Honor for more like this.
