WWE 205 Live became the brand to watch in 2018, producing excellent matches on a weekly basis and shining on a few big Pay Per Views.

Cedric Alexander, Mustafa Ali, and Buddy Murphy formed the core of WWE 205 Live, and while the brand is about so much more than this trio, they were simply untouchable in 2018. Few wrestlers in the company could match 205 Live’s top superstars in terms of week-to-week consistency, with the rivalries between Alexander and Murphy and Ali and Murphy being must-see television.

That said, 205 is about so much more than just these three men, especially now that Ali has moved on to bigger things on the main roster, feuding with WWE Champion Daniel Bryan on SmackDown Live. TJP, Gran Metalik, Kalisto, Lince Dorado, Tony Nese, Akira Tozawa, Drew Gulak, and Hideo Itami are just a handful of the other superstars who had big performances this year.

Ali, Murphy, and Alexander, though, were on another level, which is why they are most heavily represented on this list of the top five wrestlers. And though Ali never won the Cruiserweight Championship like Alexander and Murphy, his presence on SmackDown Live is more than enough evidence of his quality

Perhaps Alexander and Murphy could follow suit by joining the main roster product as taller, heavier cruiserweights who also tore down the house without pause in 2018. But they have been on top of 205 for so long that in some ways it’s better to have them growing the brand on Wednesday evenings instead of leaving for the crowded Raw or SmackDown too soon.

Regardless of what happens in the future, these men helped 205 Live become appointment television for many wrestling fans, and hopefully this brief look back at the best Cruiserweight matches of 2018 serves as a reminder of the heights this brand has reached.
