Being The Elite Hints At Kenny Omega’s Future

Less than 24 hours after the news dropped that Kenny Omega was taking time away from NJPW, The Young Bucks released the newest episode of Being the Elite.

Omega’s future was something that loomed in the background of the entire episode of BTE, and there were several hints about what Kenny Omega’s future was going to be.

The episode opened with Marty Scurll holding a New Years party alone, when Omega showed up. Marty was quite sad, as his friends seemed to be leaving him (implying that they were all heading to AEW), and Omega was the only one left.

Meanwhile, The Young Bucks, Hangman Page, Cody, and Brandi Rhodes all signed their AEW contracts. Matt Jackson confirmed that they were 5 year contracts, meaning that this is a long term investment for them. The rest of the episode focused on the events of the Tokyo Dome, and all members of the Elite losing their matches.

The Bucks, Hangman, Cody, and Brandi, all indicated that they didn’t know when they would see Kenny Omega and Marty Scurll next. Marty was quite sad throughout the episode, wondering if he’d see his friends again in ROH.

Kenny Omega, however, lost his cell phone while at Marty’s New Years party, and the episode closes with the camera zooming in on the phone left on the ground outside of TGI Friday’s.

Omega, throughout the episode, seemed deep in thought, and anytime AEW was mentioned, he seemed to be thinking quite a bit. The hints about Omega’s future is clear – he even said to Marty, “I’m in the same boat as you.” Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks have turned the contract status of Omega into a storyline for Being the Elite. This indicates strongly to me that he is going to sign with AEW.

The secondary story of Marty Scurll being left alone with no one around also indicates to me that they’re turning the relationship between AEW and ROH (and NJPW) into a storyline as well.

While none of this can be confirmed, The Elite has a history of blending reality into their Being the Elite show to drive storylines forward. My speculation, based on this, is that AEW is going to develop a working relationship with ROH and NJPW, and that Omega is going to sign with either AEW or NJPW. As I said, this isn’t confirmed, but when it is being used as a storyline in BTE, I expect we’ll be finding out very soon what the future of Kenny Omega is.
