5 WWE Women’s Wrestling Takeaways: Sasha Banks Reclaims Glory
By JB Alexander
There was a lot of action this week for the women of WWE, but one star managed to shine above the rest: Sasha Banks. In fine form, The Boss took Raw in the palm of her hand and put the rest of her division on notice.
Echoes of WWE’s sexist past have been rearing their ugly heads in recent weeks, so it was nice to see Raw and SmackDown crawling out of the holes they’ve gotten themselves into. But how much progress was made? Luckily enough some redemption was found, but not without a couple of blunders along the way.

More Bait, More Switch by WWE
Last week on SmackDown, WWE really dropped the ball in their initial teasing of a confrontation between John Cena and Becky Lynch. They got the crowd all riled up by letting Becky boldly call Cena out, but ultimately the two just teamed together for a match against Andrade “Cien” Almas and Zelina Vega.
That felt like a cheap way to get our attention just to pull the rug out from under us, but then WWE went ahead and teased a dream match between the two by asking fans on Twitter who they think would win.
I really, truly want to get excited about this because I would pay the monthly price of a WWE Network subscription just for this match alone. John Cena’s the biggest wrestling star in twenty years and Becky Lynch has done the impossible by becoming a universally beloved babyface.
A one-on-one match of this magnitude could go down as one of the biggest in WWE history and, based on hype alone, could stand alongside any match between The Rock and Steve Austin or Hulk Hogan and Randy Savage.
Unfortunately, it’s all lip service. Apologies to WWE; I genuinely try to remain positive but too many times they’ve let me down by proving themselves unable to follow through on promises to give fans what they really want.
Much like what happened last week on SmackDown, I believe this tease is nothing more than a desperate attempt at keeping us hooked without any intention on putting forth the effort to actually do something super cool.
