Ronda Rousey ‘Marked Out’ When She Learned About Her Match Against Sasha Banks

At the WWE Royal Rumble Pay Per View, Ronda Rousey will defend the Raw Women’s Championship against Sasha Banks, and she sounds quite excited to take on “The Legit Boss” in a few weeks.

On last week’s episode of WWE Raw, Ronda Rousey put over Sasha Banks in a major way on the microphone during the first “Moment of Bliss” episode. Banks would be challenged by Nia Jax moments later, and after surviving a brutal match against “The Facebreaker”, Sasha earned herself that opportunity at Ronda’s Raw Women’s Championship at the Royal Rumble.

The mutual respect between Rousey and Banks is well-known. In November, Rousey said that she would “really love” to face Banks, but openly wondered if she was good enough to take on one of the best women’s wrestlers in history. Banks herself praised Rousey this summer for her transition to WWE, noting her strong performance against Nia at the Money in the Bank PPV, which Rousey would later top in December at TLC.

Rousey’s respect for Sasha’s in-ring chops seems boundless, and she gave some even more effusive praise to “The Legit Boss” in a recent video posted on her YouTube channel.

Cageside Seats has the transcription:

"”Everyone always asks me what my dream match is and I always say Sasha Banks because, I mean, I think, in my opinion, and opinion is subjective, I think a lot of women have had their best match with Sasha. I think that more people in the women’s division have had their best match with Sasha than anyone else, in my opinion. So I’ve always been really excited about the potential for what she could bring out of me. And up until this point I really didn’t think I was really at the level where I could fully take advantage of the opportunity to have a match with her.”"

The former UFC Champion then added that she “marked out” when she learned that she’d have a match against Sasha, adding that she “totally” acts like a “mark” around the four-time Raw Women’s Champion before joking that Banks probably sees her as being “creepy nice”.

It’s hilarious to think that Ronda Rousey, one of the most popular athletes in the history of mixed martial arts and now professional wrestling, has mark-out moments, but, well, that’s the power of “The Boss”.

Sasha Banks has earned her reputation has one of the best in the business due to her years of hard work inside the squared circle and outside of it. Though all of Rousey’s matches have been exceptional, with her TLC match against Nia and her recent Raw match against Natalya being highlights just from the past several weeks, her upcoming battle against Banks will almost certainly be her best yet.

It has a chance to be a Match of the Year candidate, but with Becky Lynch and Asuka set to do battle on the same show, they’ll have to put everything on the line to ensure the show is theirs to steal.

But with how dedicated both Sasha and Ronda are and how smart they are inside that ring, I wouldn’t put it past them to produce an all-time classic in just their first meeting together.
