As Raw and SmackDown attempt to get their respective women’s divisions back on track, Toni Storm is inspiring a new generation of fandom in NXT UK. It was a week of all around solid in-ring action and some pretty big news regarding the Women’s Tag Team Titles.

Last week Sasha Banks took a golden opportunity and showed the WWE Universe why she should have been in the title picture all along, and this week saw Raw follow up in good form. SmackDown also tried to match the red brand’s title hype, but the real talk of the main roster came in the form of some surprising news from a surprising source.

Stage Set for WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles

The biggest story to come out of the Raw and SmackDown women’s divisions this week has been the unveiling of the official Women’s Tag Team Championship belts and a concrete date for when the first champions will be crowned.

First off: the belts. They were revealed during this week’s edition of A Moment of Bliss by none other than Alexa Bliss herself, and I must say they are a stunning piece of work. I’m not just saying this because they’re new and shiny, but these white-strapped, golden-plated beauties have now taken the top spot for my favorite belt design in all of WWE.

In the words of the incomparable Alundra Blayze, this is what women’s wrestling belts should look like.

As for when we will get to see the first Women’s Tag Team Champions crowned, that will be happening in a few weeks at Elimination Chamber.

Forgoing what was perhaps the more expected route of simply holding a cross-brand tournament, WWE has decided to have three teams each from Raw and SmackDown compete inside the actual Elimination Chamber to decide the first title holders.

I couldn’t be happier about this; it’s a break from the usual slow build mentality that has made for such uneventful television these past years, and a step toward a more exciting product. It also ensures the titles will be the talk of the wrestling world that night, making certain Elimination Chamber belongs to the women of WWE for the second year in a row.
