WWE Royal Rumble 2019: 3 Reasons Why Asuka Should Retain

1. Becky Lynch Can Win The Rumble

Among the strongest reasons in support of Asuka holding onto the championship at Chase Field is the increased likelihood of Becky Lynch emerging victorious later in the night. Lynch could technically win the title and main event WrestleMania against Ronda Rousey (and potentially Charlotte Flair), helping Ronda transition to SmackDown Live at the behest of FOX.

However, that path seems more convoluted and less satisfying. Based on Becky’s immense support from the WWE Universe over the past several months and her currently impeccable character work, it seems like the vast majority of fans want to see Lynch win the Royal Rumble. It would be a massive moment for Becky’s character, and it would be an opportunity for WWE to boost her star power with a defining win.

Becky talks a lot about how amazing she is, and there’s no doubt that she can back it up. Just ask Nia Jax and Ronda Rousey.

But beating 29 other women for a chance to main event ‘Mania would speak volumes. Best of all, Becky doesn’t have to actually lose (or lose cleanly) for Asuka to retain, in case WWE is worried about protecting her in singles competition as they build towards that WrestleMania match against the “undefeatable” Rousey.

Plus, the story of Becky going through an incredibly grueling match against Asuka before eventually outlasting the competition in the Women’s Rumble would be a fantastic underdog-type story for her tough-as-leather character.
