The Velveteen Dream has quickly become one of WWE’s most popular superstars, and you can count Sheamus as the latest veteran of the business to give the NXT standout some high praise.

Though The Velveteen Dream won’t have a match at the upcoming NXT TakeOver: Phoenix show, he has already established himself as one the brand’s most important performers. From his NXT TakeOver WarGames match against Aleister Black to his TakeOver: WarGames 2 match against Tommaso Ciampa, Dream has taken WWE by storm, and as a vignette on NXT TV stated, this is shaping up to be the “Year of The Dream”.

Sheamus knows a thing or two about winning championships in WWE and has seen plenty of great characters in wrestling come and go. So it means something when “The Celtic Warrior” says that The Velveteen Dream is headed for big things.

He recently spoke to Solo Wrestling about characters in WWE, and the portion of his interview praising The Dream was translated and relayed by Wrestling Inc.’s Ross Kelly:

"“Perhaps one of the most popular characters that WWE has right now is the prodigy of NXT, The Velveteen Dream. He is a 23-year-old star, talented and with an arrogant character who is destined to do great things in the future.”"

You can count Sheamus as among the many who are high on The Dream. That list includes Raw superstars John Cena and Drew McIntyre, as well as WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle.

Though The Dream hasn’t won the NXT Championship yet and has just received one opportunity at the title on a TakeOver Special, the gold shouldn’t be far away. And even if he ends up on the main roster sooner than he can capture one of NXT’s most prized possessions, fans will understand that The Dream never needed a crowning moment to become one of WWE’s most captivating performers.

It all has to do with his confidence, his gimmick, his ring gear, his charisma on the mic, his poise, and his ability to understand all the finer details of character work in and out of the ring. His wrestling ability is undeniably incredible, but, as Sheamus notes, what sets him apart is his character. Everyone wants to gravitate towards him, and several of his matches, such as his bout against Ciampa, led to electric crowds that were fully behind him
