WWE SmackDown Will Have One Of The Best Matches You Could Imagine
Last week, Andrade “Cien” Almas and Rey Mysterio tore down the house on WWE SmackDown in Birmingham, Alabama, and they will have the opportunity to do the unthinkable next week – better that effort in a two out of three falls match.
WWE SmackDown has an absolutely stacked roster, whether it’s SmackDown Women’s Champion Asuka, “The Man” Becky Lynch, or The New Day gracing our screens. But out of all the talented wrestlers on this roster, Rey Mysterio and Andrade “Cien” Almas just might be the two best inside the ring.
On last week’s episode in Birmingham, Alabama, Mysterio and Andrade met face to face in the ring, producing one of the most memorable television matches in wrestling history. They partially structured the match around a “Canadian Destroyer” spot that Mysterio used in the preceding week’s episode, where Andrade eventually pinned his hero in tag competition.
Andrade followed that up with a “W” in singles competition, and he could make it three in a row next week in a two out of three falls match.
WWE officially announced this stipulation match on Saturday afternoon, sending social media into a frenzy. There’s no doubt that WWE fans were left awestruck by Mysterio’s and Andrade’s match last week, as the two built an impeccable match that showcased just how good wrestling in WWE can be in 2019.
This match has the potential to be even better, as they can provide “callbacks” to their previous encounters and build a story around the falls. Andrade is as hungry as any wrestler to prove that he’s world championship material, especially with Zelina Vega calling the shots by his side. Vega has proclaimed that 2019 is his year, and nothing would send a stronger statement that pinning Mysterio twice in one spell-binding match.
Though Mysterio and Andrade didn’t main event last week’s episode of WWE SmackDown, this big-ticket match figures to be the main event next week. And even if it isn’t, hopefully it attracts more viewers to the “Blue Brand”, which remains white-hot and arguably the best weekly show in the company.
It won’t be easy for Andrade to pin the resilient, experienced, and athletic Mysterio twice in one night, but he’s already pinned Rey twice in two weeks. The onus will be on Andrade to follow that up with a consistently-crisp match devoid of mistakes against Mysterio, who is a multi-time world champion and a living legend of this industry.
All the counters and big moves figure to be breathless once again, and both the stakes and ensuing drama will feel even greater. I can’t wait for this match, and with Samoa Joe vs. Mustafa Ali also on the card, SmackDown Live will be a can’t-miss show next week.
