After an amazing night at NXT TakeOver: Phoenix, the landscape of NXT has already begun to shift. Two championships changed hands, and we could be seeing superstars move up to the main roster soon with WrestleMania looming. NXT TakeOver: New York is still a few months out, but let’s see what NXT’s next event would look like.

At NXT TakeOver: Phoenix, we saw some amazing matches. War Raiders opened the night with a tag team clinic against The Undisputed Era, and managed to leave as the new NXT Tag Team Champions. Ricochet and Johnny Gargano tore the house down later in the night, but it was “Johnny TakeOver” who left as the NXT North American Champion.

We also saw strong title defenses by NXT Champion Tommaso Ciampa and NXT Women’s Champion Shayna Baszler. Ciampa had to dig deep to put away Aleister Black, and their issues continued during Halftime Heat. At halftime during the Super Bowl, Aleister Black teamed with Velveteen Dream and Ricochet to take on Tommaso Ciampa, Johnny Gargano, and Adam Cole.

The entire match came as a result of a confrontation that happened just after NXT TakeOver: Phoenix went off the air. It was an undeniably fantastic contest, but could be close to the last NXT sees of a few of the night’s participants. Rumors have swirled for some time about the potential call-ups of Aleister Black and Velveteen Dream, and doing so after their performance at Halftime Heat would be ideal.

Also, with The Undisputed Era now completely devoid of championship gold, it would make sense for WWE to move them up. Considering SmackDown’s need for fresh teams and Raw’s supposed desire to improve the division after The Revival’s vented frustrations, The Undisputed Era would be a welcome addition to either brand.

With these potential call-ups in mind, you’ll notice in this card prediction that Velveteen Dream, Aleister Black, and The Undisputed Era are all missing. However, it still looks like we could have a truly spectacular card for NXT TakeOver: New York.
