The Singles Run

The saying “he’s a good hand” is a phrase that may sound demeaning but is one of the best ways to compliment a professional wrestler. It’s a phrase that lets everyone know that he or she is a professional that can do whatever is asked of them between the ropes and outside of it. That is one of the best ways to describe Kingston.

It’s that ability that helped him cement his place on the WWE roster, and his work was rewarded with multiple title reigns. He’s just one world title win away from being a Grand Slam champion; a feat that has been obtained by only three other minorities (Eddie Guerreo, Roman Reigns, and Booker T). That list includes a Hall of Famers like Guerrero, Kurt Angle, and Shawn Michaels and Kingston deserves to be the next entry.

Remembering Kingston’s single title runs is an important aspect of why so many want to see him win the big one. Seven times he has been a singles champion for a combined 475 days. Early in his career he was established as a potential threat to any title holder with his first win over Chris Jericho in 2008.

In each of his reigns he gave us some great matches against the likes of Jericho, The Miz, Carlito, Drew McIntyre, Sheamus, Cesaro, and more. Kingston has a style that works well with any competitor and the Gauntlet Match from Tuesday continued to prove that narrative.

The last time that Kingston has held a singles title was back in 2013. It’s time that changed and by change Kingston should be added onto the short list of Grand Slam champions with a World Title run to cap off what has already been an exceptional singles campaign.
