WWE: Were The NXT Superstars Called Up Too Soon?
Triple H appeared on WWE Raw to make a huge announcement: NXT superstars Ricochet, Johnny Gargano, Aleister Black, and Tommaso Ciampa are headed to the main roster.
On the February 18, 2019 episode of WWE Raw, at the very beginning, we get Triple H entering the ring.
I was thinking, “Here we go. He’s about to cut some cheesy WrestleMania promo.” I wasn’t entirely wrong. It could’ve been worse.
Triple H: “Can you feel it?!”
Oh, OK! I thought he was about to break out and start singing Jackson 5! It got excited and everything.
Anyway, he brought up the inaugural women’s tag team champions which was expected! Congratulations to Sasha Banks and Bayley!
He brought up Kofi Kingston. I mean, he had to do that! It would’ve been criminal if he didn’t. He’s clearly headed to WrestleMania to face Daniel Bryan. I’m still calling it!
But, then Triple H pulled a fast one on me – on everyone. He turned around an announced four more NXT call-ups!
Well, i’m shooketh! These are huge call ups!
Tommaso Ciampa, Johnny Gargano, Aleister Black, & Ricochet?!
I mean, let’s go down the list, shall we? Let’s start with Johnny Gargano & Tommaso Ciampa First!
- Johnny & Tommaso – DIY.
- The break up of DIY!
- Johnny Gargano Vs Ricochet At NXT Takeover: Phoenix!
- The whole feud between Johnny Gargano & Tommaso Ciampa! Iconic!
I could go on and on with this.
Let’s take a look at Aleister Black!
- His excellent debut at NXT Takeover: Orlando against Andrade Cien Almas
- Aleister’s match against The Velveteen Dream at NXT Takeover: WarGames – definitely my personal favorite.
- Aleister Black becoming the NXT Champion at NXT TakeOver: New Orléans! I wish his championship reign went a little bit longer. But, he still did good.
And Ricochet?! Whew!
I saw Ricochet coming a mile away. I mean, my God! Has this man ever heard of gravity? Yes? No? I’ll take that as a no. He probably got a whole list of wigs in his closet. Let’s see em!
- His debut at NXT TakeOver: New Orleans where he went after The NXT North American Championship — which he didn’t get until…
- His match at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn IV where he defeated Adam Cole (Bay Bay) and became the New NXT North American Champion
- His feud with The Velveteen Dream — iconic! Period. Point blank! Specifically, this moment below.
My mouth is agape right now! Ricochet got straight up gangsta with it! This was months ago and i’m still shook. I just can’t. Like I said, iconic!
Now, this is all great and all. But, in my opinion, there’s one problem.
They’ve already called up Lacey Evans, Nikki Cross, EC3, & Heavy Machinery.
Now they’re calling up four more people?! Why now? They’re barely using the NXT call ups they called up already! What kind of WWE logic is this?!
Somebody help me.
OK. So, let’s take it all for what it is – what it is. What is this going to do to NXT?! In my opinion, NXT (excluding the UK brand) is pretty much going to have to start over for the most part.
The people they just called up were the biggest stars on that brand (other than the Velveteen Dream and The Undisputed Era), and they just yanked them all out of there at the same time!
I’m worried about the possibility of people getting lost in the shuffle even with the brand split.
But, I’m willing to see where this goes even if I think the decision to make more NXT call ups now is concerning for the brand.
I’m happy for every last one of them and I wish them all the best.
