Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano, who form the highly successful tag team DIY, were recently called up to the WWE main roster. However, neither wrestled on television this week due to Ciampa’s neck injury.

Johnny Gargano was initially scheduled to wrestle against Cesaro in a dream match on WWE SmackDown Live this week, and Tommaso Ciampa and Sheamus were to be in their respective partners’ corners. Instead, neither man appeared on the show, though fans were treated to Ricochet and Aleister Black vs. Rusev and Shinsuke Nakamura.

Ciampa and Gargano’s absences from in-ring action on Monday and Tuesday can be explained by this latest injury update.

PWInsider.com’s Mike Johnson reports that Ciampa has been dealing with a neck injury for 4-5 weeks, and this injury caused him to be written off of this week’s television.

He and Gargano were, per Johnson, initially scheduled to wrestle on Raw in a Four-Way tag match against Black and Ricochet, Curt Hawkins and Zack Ryder, and one more tag team. Perhaps that tag team would have been The Revival, as the Raw Tag Team Champions lost to Black and Ricochet in a straight-up tag match on Monday night.

Ciampa’s injury is concerning, as the NXT Champion has been one of WWE’s top heels and is expected to make a huge splash on the main roster, especially with DIY back together. It seems like Gargano and Ciampa may be on a collision course for a final match at NXT TakeOver: Blacklist during WrestleMania week(end), and fans can only hope that Ciampa will be OK.

Neck injuries are incredibly scary, and the WWE Universe is especially cautious about Ciampa’s health. The 33-year-old recently completed an inspiring comeback from a torn ACL, and fans were nervous that he re-injured his knee in a scary spot with Sheamus on a recent episode of SmackDown.

However, it’s Ciampa’s neck that is giving him issues, and PW Insider reports that the “Blackheart” has not been given medical clearance to compete. This is a tough, potentially scary situation for Ciampa, and we can only pray that it doesn’t end up being serious and he can return to compete soon enough.
