WWE Chairman and CEO Vince McMahon crashed a contract signing between Kofi Kingston and Daniel Bryan for Fastlane, replacing Kofi with Kevin Owens for the championship match. Now, Kingston has some strong words after this shocking development.

When Kofi Kingston was named Mustafa Ali’s replacement for the WWE Championship Elimination Chamber match on Feb. 17, few could have expected the immense groundswell of support, but, perhaps, we should have seen it coming. Kingston, after all, is one of the most decorated wrestlers in WWE history, currently producing some all-time great tag team work with The New Day.

Kingston, however, has always been WWE Championship material as a singles competitor, even if the company hasn’t given him that opportunity in his career. That all seemed ready to change at Fastlane, as Kingston was named Daniel Bryan’s opponent for the final Pay Per View on the road to WrestleMania.

Vince McMahon, unfortunately, had other plans. During Kingston’s contract signing segment with Bryan, Vince crashed the party and replaced Kofi with Kevin Owens, who is making his return from two knee surgeries. Owens vs. Bryan would undoubtedly be a great match, but the WWE Universe was upset when Kofi was replaced.

Today, Kingston released a heartfelt statement about the events that occurred on SmackDown Live, telling the WWE Universe that, “The journey does not end here.”

Though Kingston has been bumped off the Fastlane card in favor of Bryan, he has earned a WWE Championship opportunity with his amazing performances in the Elimination Chamber and Gauntlet Matches, as well as his pin of Bryan in tag team competition last week.

So it’s entirely possible – and indeed, quite probable – that we will see Kofi Kingston in a world title match soon. WrestleMania 35 seems like the perfect venue for Kingston to win his first world championship, and wrestling fans have been waiting for far too long for a Black superstar to capture the WWE Title. Kingston’s win would be a history-making, feel-good victory at The Show of Shows, and this Twitter message is just one step towards him reaching the final destination of this potentially awesome journey.

I’m sure Owens vs. Bryan will be a great match at Fastlane, but Kingston vs. Bryan has a chance to be a truly special WrestleMania moment.

Hopefully WWE sees this, and the fact that Kingston proclaimed his journey as everyone who has him’s journey is a sign that we should remain optimistic.
