WWE Raw: What Are The WrestleMania Plans For The Shield?
By Tom Thomas
The Shield reunited once more on WWE Raw this week. The Hounds of Justice will take on Drew McIntyre, Baron Corbin and Bobby Lashley at Fastlane. But what does the future hold for the trio?
WWE Raw featured a new chapter in the Shield’s history books as the brothers joined hands once more, perhaps for one last moment. Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins finally managed to convince Dean Ambrose to join their side once more, for the sake of good times. As Reigns pointed out, life is very short and the only thing that matters is the relationships you have. Be that as it may be, the return of the Hounds of Justice is intriguing as ever.
As soon as I saw teases of a Shield reunion from last week, I’ve been wondering how this would pan out. While creative did rush in a little bit with the latest reunion, the fans were red-hot for the storyline and each member played their role to perfection. Moreover, it was a nice tribute to Ambrose to have him take the center stage during the Shield Fist pose.
Now that we have reminisced about it for long enough, we can ask the real questions that matter. For starters, we do know that unless specified otherwise, Dean Ambrose will not be with the WWE once his contract runs out. But it could also be possible that he decides to change his mind, now that Roman Reigns is back. Ambrose will however be around until WrestleMania 35. Seeing as this year could use more marquee matches, creative will be wise to use the Hounds in some way or the other. If that be the case, what will the Shield be doing at WrestleMania?
One thing that we do know is that Seth Rollins will be facing the Beast Incarnate for the Universal title. Unlike Becky Lynch’s conquest, Rollins’s path is laid out in stone and he is on a collision course to Suplex City. That leaves the possibility of a Shield match at Mania. After all, you can’t expect any one to pull off double duty at WrestleMania, especially when you are in a major title match. Unless your name is Daniel Bryan, that is.
Rollins will need to carry much of the weight in the match against Lesnar. However, you can always bet on the Architect to do something insane and double duty might just be his way of stealing the show this year. But again, the odds are really slim. Another possibility would be for the Shield to stand in Rollins’s corner and help him defeat the Beast. But the problem is, this will surely devalue Rollins’s win and basically derail all the momentum he has gained from working classic matches week after week.
So where does this leave the Shield then? Specifically, where does this leave Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns? It could be possible that these two set their sights on the tag titles, just like in the old times. Except that back in the days, Ambrose was the single champion. This can be considered a more probable approach if Ambrose actually decides to stay.
What does the future hold for the Hounds of Justice as we head into WrestleMania season? Will the Hounds make one final appearance together at Fastlane? Will Ambrose go off on his own after Sunday, riding off into the sunset as he prepares for an imminent departure from the company, that will forever refer to him as one-third of one of the greatest factions of the modern era? Or will he stick around to add more chapters into the Shield’s saga in the WWE?
