SmackDown Women’s Championship Match: Asuka (c) vs. Mandy Rose
Next up at WWE Fastlane, we got to see the SmackDown Women’s Championship on the line as Asuka defended against Mandy Rose. As expected, Sonya Deville accompanied Rose to ringside and her presence was felt early. Asuka had the initial advantage, but a few timely distractions by Deville let Rose hit a stiff knee strike and take control of the match.
Mandy Rose had an impressive showing against Asuka as the match continued, hitting some stiff strikes and pushing her way close to victory. Sonya Deville looked for an opening later in the match, lifting up the ring apron and pulling out a kendo stick. As Deville was poised to interfere, Rose accidentally slipped on the pulled up ring apron.
As she stumbled back to her feet, Asuka hit a devastating spinning kick that connected right on Mandy Rose’s chin. Rose crumpled to the mat and Asuka picked up the win to retain the SmackDown Women’s Championship at WWE Fastlane.

After the match, Deville tried to apologize to Mandy for the mix-up, but Rose refused to accept the handshake and shrugged off Sonya as they headed to the back. Things looked tense as they both got backstage, and it’s not clear if these issues will resolve or if this friendship is on the way to a bitter ending.
Right after the match, Kofi Kingston was shown backstage in front of Vince McMahon’s office. Big E and Xavier Woods approached Kofi, who said he’d been waiting since the Kickoff Show. The New Day barged into the office and spoke to Vince, who suddenly caved to their request to add Kofi Kingston to the WWE Championship match. With the triple threat announced, Kofi Kingston made his way to the ring.
