After a crushing defeat in their WWE SmackDown Tag Title match against The Usos, The Miz and Shane McMahon parted ways after the match. To the surprise of everyone, Miz was not the one to do the turning.
For months now, ever since Shane McMahon replaced The Miz in the WWE Crowl Jewel Cup, fans have expected that the partnership between the Best in the World would dissolve with Miz stabbing his partner in the back. Truth be told, we all right. Well, half-right. Miz was not the one to turn as we all assumed. It was Shane McMahon who attacked both Miz and Miz’s dad after the match.
Truth be told, it was the right call.
The way this storyline has transpired, the fans managed to fall in love with The Miz. Maybe it’s because his segments with Shane were always funny or because his attempt to tag with Shane McMahon to win his dad’s love was surprisingly sympathetic. Whatever the case may be, The Miz became a lovable babyface after we all thought he’d be a heel for life. But let’s look at the storyline for a sec.
Miz wanted to tag with Shane McMahon and win the titles because he wanted to win the adoration and respect of his dad that he thought was lacking. Before that, he earned his way through the finals of the Crown Jewel Best in the World tournament, only to hurt himself before the match and get replaced by his boss who would take all the glory for himself. No wonder the fans have gravitated so fondly to Miz. On paper, Miz’s journey from Crown Jewel until now sounds like a textbook babyface.
Meanwhile, after all that, Miz felt like he earned a partnership with Shane at the very least, but for several months, Shane McMahon would shut him down.
On paper, Shane McMahon sounds like a heel in the making. Now, Shane’s lost a tag title match which he argued with Miz so hard to not even be a part of. Yep, that’s a textbook heel alright and fittingly enough, both parties took on the roles that they deserved. Anything otherwise wouldn’t have made storyline sense and would have been a disservice to everyone involved in the storyline.
Plus, bias included, Miz just has a better dad than Shane, so he had to stay babyface off that alone.
