WWE: Yes, Ronda Rousey Attacking Becky Lynch Did Make Sense

Once again, Ronda Rousey interfered in a high-stakes match involving Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair, but her attack on Becky at WWE Fastlane 2019 did indeed make sense.

Conventional wisdom states that a champion, such as WWE Raw Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey, would want to face one opponent in a title match as opposed to two. When facing two opponents, a champion can lose their title without even factoring into a finish, and in a no-disqualification match, the champion’s advantage is essentially nullified.

However, Rousey isn’t the type of competitor who thinks conventionally, which is why her attack on Becky Lynch at Fastlane, which sealed the fact that she’ll defend the Raw Women’s Championship in a Triple Threat match in the main event of WrestleMania 35, made perfect sense. No, it wasn’t just a lazy way of WWE moving the plot; it actually made sense for Rousey’s character to let Becky win by disqualification.

It’s important to remember that Rousey’s character in WWE is one of supreme arrogance. She sees herself as above professional wrestling, which is why she went on a profanity-laced tirade against the entire sport, deriding its “fakeness”. Of course, she’ll be in for a rude awakening at Charlotte and Becky’s hands at WrestleMania 35, but, until then, she’s riding high on this false sense of security that this MMA background has provided her.

See, Ronda has run through essentially the entire Women’s Division on Raw, even defeating some of WWE’s most decorated wrestlers in Sasha Banks and Bayley. While she was taken to the brink by these two, Ronda has the type of dangerous confidence that only an undefeated champion (OK, she did lose a tag match to the Boss’N’Hug Connection) can have.

So why wouldn’t she think that she can kill two birds with one stone at WrestleMania? Rousey wants both Becky and Charlotte at the same time, because she legitimately sees them as nothing more than stepping stones on her path to a “Reign of Terror” as Raw Women’s Champion.

But there’s perhaps a more poignant reason, beyond simple bravado, why Rousey attacked Becky in Cleveland to make this a Triple Threat. That reason comes courtesy of @CatchWrestling, who always comes up with excellent ideas that truly break a storyline into its important components.

In Rousey’s mind, she is the one responsible for Becky’s rise to stardom and main event prominence in WWE. Rousey sees herself as the true star who elevated everyone, and the likes of Becky and Charlotte are simply riding on her coattails. More importantly, Rousey didn’t want Becky to make it to WrestleMania on her own merit – even though she already did by winning the Royal Rumble in January – she wanted to be able to tell herself that she is responsible for sending Becky into the main event of WrestleMania.

These are the egotistical mindgames that Rousey is playing now that she’s embraced this persona of the villainous outsider who wants nothing more than to prove that pro wrestlers can’t hold a candle to her. This unbridled arrogance has become self-destructive, because even though she’s just earned herself what is essentially a No DQ match against Charlotte and Becky, it’s that type of set-up that could ultimately do her in.

Ronda, as Jeff Hardy’s theme song “No More Words warns, is the architect of her own defeat, as she may have orchestrated her own downfall with her ego. She wanted Becky in the main event of WrestleMania, and, by God, she is going to get The Man at her sterling best at WrestleMania.
