What Is WWE Actually Doing With Lacey Evans Right Now?

Lacey Evans current main roster push, if you want to call it that, isn’t working. It’s about time WWE figures out a direction for one of their more promising NXT call-ups.

During the time it took you to click on this article, Lacey Evans just walked down another WWE entrance ramp and back up it again without actually doing anything.

At least, that’s what it feels like after we’ve been forced to sit for weeks upon weeks waiting for WWE to finally have Evans do something, anything, of importance on WWE Raw or SmackDown.

Evans is a talented superstar with a character that, if executed properly, could create some compelling storylines. Nevertheless, so far WWE seems content with Evans becoming the live-action version of Emmalina.

Even given the resounding success of that truly historic angle, it seems like an, ahem, unique choice to run what is essentially a slight variation of it again.

When it comes down to it, isn’t that all Lacey Evans current character is right now? I know we’ve seen some hints at future rivalries, scratch that, numerous hints at future rivalries. Those teases certainly haven’t led to any tangible results though.

No feud with Natalya, Asuka, or even Nia Jax has emerged for Evans. Heck, we don’t even know if she’s a face or heel based on that list.

Basically, it just means we have another case of a superstar who’s gimmick is either that they are “too good” to make a real in-ring debut, which would be a heel character’s approach I might add, or simply too full of themselves to actually feel the need to wrestle.

In the latter case, that character could honestly be presented either as a face or a heel, believe it or not, adding another “fun” layer of mystery to Evans’ current main roster run.

Either way, the whole angle makes about as much sense as a giant wrestling mummy right about now.

For one of those options to actually work for Evans, there would have to have been some sort of history to work off of. Instead, anybody who’s tuned into NXT over the past year has seen Evans fight unknown “enhancement talent” while also expressing a clear desire to earn championship gold.

In fact, Evans only major main roster match to date was the Women’s Royal Rumble match for a shot at either the WWE Raw or SmackDown Women’s Championships. That sort of flies in the face of any, “I don’t even need to wrestle even though I work for a professional wrestling promotion,” gimmick like we’ve seen superstars in the past stuck with in WWE.

At the end of the day, the only part of Lacey Evans main roster run that we can know for certain is that WWE outwardly doesn’t appear to have any real direction for Evans. She’s just stuck literally walking around WWE until someone gives her a story right now.

Now it’s not too late, or at least not that late, for WWE to give Evans a solid push for WrestleMania. There’s still several weeks to work with here, even if the current outlook for Evans is a bit less than sunny.

At this point, I would shudder at the thought of WWE going from 0 to 100 on a main event push for Evans considering just how horrible her current time on the main roster has been executed, but there’s no reason a WrestleMania match against a currently directionless star like Naomi could be off the table to kick-start that kind of push for the future.

All WWE has to do is cut the nonsense, put an end to whatever alleged gimmick Evans currently has, and start from virtual scratch. If they don’t, soon Lacey Evans will start looking like yet another wasted NXT talent with so much untapped potential on the main roster.
