The March 12 edition of WWE SmackDown was a huge night for the blue brand on several key fronts regarding WrestleMania 35 in just under four weeks with several new matches taking shape and being made official.

The post-Fastlane edition of WWE SmackDown saw some of the best promos the WWE has seen in a while in a few different storylines, not to mention a few solid matches as well with WrestleMania 35 plans taking shape.

The blue brand is clicking on nearly all cylinders at the moment, and it couldn’t come at a more appropriate time on the road to WrestleMania.  Let’s take a look at a few grades from the March 12 edition of WWE SmackDown.

4. Opening Segment

Who would have ever thought that a tag team between The Miz and Shane McMahon would have worked so well?  It worked out quite well, but the breakup of the “best tag team in the world” probably worked out even better this past Sunday at Fastlane.

After falling to The Usos at Fastlane in a SmackDown Tag Team Championship rematch, Shane O’Mac snapped on The Miz after the match and attacked him right in front of his father, who had to watch his son get beat down.  Not to mention, Shane also put his hands on Mr. Miz.  It was a crazy heel turn that caught fans by surprise, especially given that it was Shane that turned on Miz, not the other way around.

The boss’s son had a lot of explaining to do last night, and that’s exactly what he did to open up the show.  It didn’t take Shane long to act like a full-blown heel by getting in the face of the ring announcer because he wasn’t pleased with how he announced him during his entrance.  After he was finally satisfied with his introduction, Shane got into explaining why he did what he did.

He said so many people try to use him to advance their careers and he’s sick of it.  He said from now on, he’s only worrying about himself and he also said it was satisfying to beat down The Miz in front of his father.  It was then made official that Shane O’Mac will take on The Miz at WrestleMania 35.  This was a very good heel promo by Shane, who some forget was a great heel in the past.

The breakup of the co-besties was big, but it will all come to a head on the grandest stage of them all.

Final Grade: A-
