WrestleMania 35 is shaping up to be a dream night for Kofi Kingston, who has worked 11 years for an opportunity at a world championship in WWE.

Despite shining brightly over the past two months – and for 11 whole years – Kofi Kingston still has one more road block in front of him before securing a world title opportunity at WWE WrestleMania 35. The most senior member of the legendary “New Day” faction must win a loaded Gauntlet Match on the Mar. 19 episode of SmackDown Live. And he’ll need the WWE Universe, who have always been behind him (just listen to the reactions he got at Money in the Bank last year), to help will him along the way to a historic Gauntlet win against five fearsome opponents.

It was the Chairman and CEO Vince McMahon himself who removed Kofi from a WWE Championship match at Fastlane, replacing the veteran wrestler with the returning Kevin Owens, who would later be joined by Mustafa Ali in Cleveland. Worse yet, Ali’s spot in that match was originally seemingly given to Kofi by Vince, but Mr. McMahon orchestrated an ambush where New Day’s long-time rivals, Sheamus and Cesaro, beat up Kingston in a handicap “match”.

After cutting an impassioned promo that moved the WWE Universe, with perhaps the remark that Kofi has never taken his kids Trick-or-Treating due to his obligations as a wrestler cutting the deepest due to its relatability, Kofi learned that he’d have to face Sheamus, Cesaro, Erick Rowan, United States Champion Samoa Joe, and Randy Orton in a Gauntlet Match on SmackDown Live in order to face Daniel Bryan for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania.

That Gauntlet Match will kick off the show, and it should be the perfect showcase for Kofi, who dazzled in his last Gauntlet Match on the week before the Elimination Chamber Pay Per View. Kingston is almost guaranteed to win with the story revolving around him finally winning a title, so let’s take some time to “fantasy book” how his path to the opportunity of a lifetime could unfold on Tuesday night.
