WWE: Should Kofi Kingston or Becky Lynch main event WrestleMania?

Kofi Kingston and Becky Lynch are in the midst of WWE’s two biggest storylines heading into WrestleMania 35, but which superstar should main event the Show of Shows?

#KofiMania has definitely shaken things up in the WWE and in the best possible way.

It all started, as you may already know, with the injury of Mustafa Ali which resulted in Kofi Kingston replacing him for the gauntlet match Feb. 12 episode of SmackDown Live, as well as the 2019 Elimination Chamber main event.

Now the question I had was, why someone from The New Day? They could have chosen anyone on SmackDown Live. Why them? That was odd. But, OK.

Now out of everyone in the stable, picking Kofi did make the most sense simply because he’s the most accomplished veteran of the group.

After the career defining performance Kofi put on, a large majority of the fans wanted the wood on Kofi. But honestly, Kofi not winning the WWE championship at Elimination Chamber was the right move for both Kingston & Bryan. Fastlane just wasn’t appropriate either.

So, that left WrestleMania, which is the best Kofi Kingston could ever ask for! The momentum, as well as the storyline, has gained meteoric support from virtually everyone (or at least a large majority of the WWE Universe).

Now what i’ve begun to notice is that a lot of the WWE Universe are now asking for Kofi Kingston and Daniel Bryan to main event WrestleMania instead of the (forced) Triple Threat between Becky Lynch, Ronda Rousey, and Charlotte Flair.

Take a look.

Oh wow! Perhaps the Becky Lynch and Ronda Rousey feud started a little too early.

WWE adding Charlotte Flair, despite the fact that the WWE Universe made it very clear (they couldn’t have made it any more clear) that they didn’t want Charlotte anywhere near that feud, definitely didn’t help matters.

It really sucks because this was a highly-anticipated match to be the first-ever women’s WrestleMania main event (without Charlotte Flair), and now it suddenly doesn’t mean as much anymore to a growing number of fans despite its historic nature.

Now WWE fans have been known to be unpredictable before. So, that’s not completely shocking. But, the switch seems like it came out of the blue on this one. But, Kofi Kingston’s push came out the blue as well.

So about that WrestleMania main event? Let’s talk!

Honestly, anything main eventing WrestleMania is a risk these days simply because of how long the pay-per-view has become. Word of the curb is this upcoming WrestleMania is set to be the longest wrestling pay per view in history.

So, the problem then becomes that by the time pay per view finally gets to the main event, the audience is too tired from previous matches to really respond like they should whether they’re physically at the event or they’re watching from home.

They could have Kofi Kingston vs. Daniel Bryan start the PPV off. But, you would risk that huge moment being forgotten about by the end. The middle of the pay per view wouldn’t work well either. So,  even though waiting all the way till the end is going to be a bit tiresome, it’s the better option.

It’ll be easier to remember and Kofi Kingston, and Daniel Bryan really,  both deserve the biggest spot on the card with all that they’ve accomplished in their collective careers — even if neither of them were originally supposed to become as successful as they ended up becoming.

We all know what main eventing would mean for the women. So, let’s look at Daniel & Kofi’s (possible) WrestleMania match.

For “The New” Daniel Bryan, everything will come full circle. Gone are the days where Daniel Bryan is looked at as an underdog — especially in this case. It would also make the first time since WrestleMania 30 that he’s main evented the pay per view — five years on the day of WrestleMania 35. This time he’ll be walking in as champion. Whoa.

For Kofi Kingston, It’ll be the first time in his career that he’s been in the main event of WrestleMania. He’ll also be the first Black wrestler (of any kind) to main event the biggest pay per view in the company in six years. Whew! That alone is a lot to take in.

Now let’s speak it into existence that Kofi Kingston wins this match. Speak it! Speak it into existence, dang it! What else would this match mean for Kofi?

Well…

He would become the WWE champion for the first time in his career. He would also be the first Black WWE champion since The Rock (who’s bi-racial) back in 2013.

Kofi Kingston would also become a Grand Slam Champion which would make him the first Black wrestler in the WWE to accomplish this in the modern era and the second ever in the history of the company — the first being the now 2X WWE Hall of Famer, Booker T.

Whew chile! I need a breather from that historicness.

When (speaking it into existence) Kofi wins, he’s making all kinds of history all at the same time. He’ll be making history by even being in that match to begin with. But, especially if it indeed becomes the main event of WrestleMania.

So, you have two matches that could main event WrestleMania. Which one to choose?

Becky Lynch vs. Ronda Rousey vs. Charlotte Flair for the RAW women’s championship or “The New” Daniel Bryan vs. Kofi Kingston for the WWE championship?

Well, in my opinion, they’re both equally as important for completely different reasons.

I definitely see where a lot of the fans are coming on the women’s triple threat as far as the booking, especially since the fans never wanted it to be a triple threat, to begin with. However, delaying the first women’s WrestleMania main event match another year would definitely be a bad move for the company.

As for Daniel and Kofi, not putting them in the main event picture at WrestleMania doesn’t make a whole lot of sense either. There’s way too much history that can be, and most likely will be, made. They’re both way too hot right now for anything less.

The fans, as well as other employees in that company (including his stablemates — Big E & Xavier Woods), are way too invested in Kofi’s push, the character of “The New” Daniel Bryan, the addition of Vince McMahon, on top of the match itself between the two.

We got a taste of the two at Elimination Chamber. When they finally have their match one-on-one on the biggest stage of them all, it’ll be a straight up buffet of positively and a whole lot of “Aww Snap” on the side!

There’s no way no one will not be talking about either of those matches after WrestleMania. There’s no way!

So, therefore, I say they both need to main event WrestleMania! It’s definitely what’s best for business. I just hope the WWE is very careful about how they book either match let alone the entire pay per view that might be the longest in history.
