Daniel Bryan (c) vs. Kofi Kingston [WWE Championship]🔵
Albeit Kofi Kingston experienced a similar situation to Becky Lynch, he didn’t win the Royal Rumble, so this storyline was more appropriately executed and did not destroy the integrity of the Royal Rumble. In fact, Kofi Kingston was not even originally supposed to be in the WWE title picture with Daniel Bryan. He was merely Mustafa Ali’s replacement in the Elimination Chamber match in February when Ali was too injured to compete.
However, the crowd got behind Kofi and there was a resurgence of energy and support for the “BOOM” kid from Ghana, West Africa. Kofi’s amazing performances in gauntlet matches as well as the elimination chamber reminded everyone why he has been a relevant and successful superstar in the WWE for 11 years, why he is one of the best babyface characters in this industry today, and why he is a guaranteed future Hall of Famer. However, the question remains: Why has Kofi not won the big one yet?
It’s saddening to even think of the reason behind this. This man has perfected his craft to the point that it’s a flat out robbery that he has not been WWE Champion even ONCE. It has also come to the point of believing that WWE will never give Kofi a chance no matter how loud the crowd chants his name. The mantras and slogans of “Anything can happen in the WWE” and “SmackDown is the land of opportunity” seems to only apply to certain superstars and not others.
Vince McMahon booked Kofi in a gauntlet match to earn an opportunity at facing Bryan for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 35. He promised Kofi that he will be going to WrestleMania if he can beat five superstars: (1) Samoa Joe, (2) Cesaro, (3) Sheamus, (4) Rowan, and (5) Randy Orton. Kofi beat all 5 men last week on SmackDown, but Vince still decided to go against his promise and screw Kofi out of a WWE Championship match by forcing him to battle against The WWE Champion Daniel Bryan. Bryan defeated Kofi, and Kofi is now directionless.
Kofi is so directionless that he and The New Day are even considering to quit the WWE. Whether this is a storyline or not, this is actually an accurate representation of life itself. It clearly shows that no matter how hard someone like Kofi tries to break that glass ceiling and/or grab the brass ring, the glass ceiling will remain shatterproof and the brass ring will remain imaginary. With that being said, it is sadly foreseeable that Daniel Bryan will retain the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 35, if this match were to occur at all.
Prediction: Daniel Bryan🔵
