WWE Raw Results, Highlights, and Grades for April 1, 2019
Stephanie McMahon’s announcement about the main event of WrestleMania
WWE Raw opened with the appearance of Stephanie McMahon, who didn’t wait a moment before making an announcement. The big news? Stephanie McMahon has been added to the main event of WrestleMania! Just kidding, that was just an attempt at an April Fool’s joke by Stephanie. In reality, she revealed both the Raw Women’s Championship and the SmackDown Women’s Championship will be on the line this Sunday.
It will be “winner take all” at WrestleMania 35. Whichever woman emerges as the victor will hold both the Raw Women’s Championship and the SmackDown Women’s Championship. Whether that means they’ll have to defend on both brands or if the titles will be unified remains unclear, but we now know that the stakes have gotten even higher for the first women’s main event in WrestleMania history.
Grade: B+, Score docked slightly for Stephanie’s bad attempt at an April Fool’s joke, but kept high because she wasn’t out there any longer than she needed to be.
Paul Heyman and Brock Lesnar are interrupted by Seth Rollins
Next up on WWE Raw, we saw Paul Heyman and Universal Champion Brock Lesnar. Heyman was exactly as expected, and the crowd was clearly not in favor of him or Lesnar. After Heyman explained that Lesnar will “take all” that Seth Rollins has on Sunday, playing on the news about the main event, we got an interruption from the challenger. Not only that, but the sound of the arena when Seth’s “BURN IT DOWN” played was truly deafening.
After we heard the usual from Seth Rollins about how he plans to defeat Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 35 and take the Universal Championship, things broke down into a predictable brawl. Rollins hit a low blow on Lesnar, and a brief fight between the two ended with Rollins hitting the Stomp on the Universal Champion and leaving Brock Lesnar laying while Rollins held the Universal Championship high. If he can repeat that on Sunday, we may see the same thing.
Grade: A, While the words between Heyman and Rollins were predictable and nothing new, the brawl was solid. This segment could have gone way too long, but it actually lasted only as long as needed to hype up this Sunday.
