By Bryan Heaton
With WrestleMania Weekend upon us, WWE’s third brand has its own big show lined up, as well. Find out the full match card for NXT TakeOver: New York, plus all details on how to watch the event.
Before the WWE Universe settles in for eleventy billion hours of WrestleMania, the superstars of NXT will put their best foot forward. NXT TakeOver: New York will officially kick off the proceedings for the biggest pro wrestling weekend of the year.
NXT has a long history in New York City, going back to the first TakeOver special to air outside of Full Sail University. That first show featured one of the greatest championship matches ever to take place in WWE, as Bayley defeated Sasha Banks for the NXT Women’s Championship.
All told, NXT has held four previous TakeOver events in the New York area, but this fifth one may be the best of the bunch. Five championship matches are scheduled for the show, with each one poised to be a talking point — and a measuring stick — for the entire weekend.
What are the five matches on the card? Without further ado, here is the final match card for NXT TakeOver: New York, as per WWE’s official website:
"NXT Championship 2-out-of-3 Falls MatchJohnny Gargano vs. Adam ColeNXT Women’s Championship Fatal 4-Way MatchShayna Baszler (c) vs. Kairi Sane vs. Io Shirai vs. Bianca BelairWWE United Kingdom Championship MatchPete Dunne (c) vs. WALTERNXT Tag Team Championship MatchThe War Raiders (c) vs. Aleister Black & RicochetNXT North American Championship MatchVelveteen Dream (c) vs. Matt Riddle"
Considering the role now-former NXT Champion Tommaso Ciampa was clearly set to have on the show, the creative team behind NXT has put together a stellar lineup. And what’s with those ladders in front of the four participants in the Women’s Championship match on the poster, hmmmm?
NXT TakeOver: New York takes place at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY, on Friday, April 5, 2019. If you’re one of the thousands of wrestling fans invading the New York/New Jersey area for WrestleMania Weekend, you should try to find a ticket for the show. (And if you do, come say hi — I’ll be there!)
But if you’re not able to attend in person, the entire show will air on the WWE Network (subscription required). Opening bell for NXT TakeOver: New York is at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT. All the festivities get underway with the Pre-Show at 6 p.m. ET/3 p.m. PT. The Pre-Show is also available on WWE.com, the WWE App, YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter.
