WWE WrestleMania 35 Rebook: No Brock Lesnar, But A Shield Triple Threat
By Tom Colohue
2. Daniel Bryan vs Kofi Kingston
WWE Championship Match
So it’s come to this. At this year’s WrestleMania, Daniel Bryan will play the role of Triple H to Kofi Kingston’s Daniel Bryan. It’s a tale as old as time. Man wrestles for company for 11 years. Man enjoys his job. Man replaces injured superstar in gauntlet match. Man vocalizes that for 11 years he’s been waiting for something and not actually enjoying his job. Man’s friends provide best backup in the world. Man challenges other man who previously was known as “Man” in this exact analogy to WWE championship match at WrestleMania. We’ve seen it a thousand times before.
Does this one feel different? No. Does it feel bad because of that? Not at all. The Elimination Chamber showed that between them, Bryan and Kingston can make absolute magic happen. This story works as clear as day.
As convoluted as the involvement of Vince McMahon has made this match, it’s also been a subtle but valuable aid for Kingston’s momentum to have the head of the company so obviously against him. Kingston has cut some amazing promos when in the ring standing face to face with Vince McMahon. McMahon, almost without question the most easy to hate man in the world, has added a lot to this one.
What would I be changing then? The only real thing I’d change is what I’ve already mentioned. Rowan would be out of the picture, guaranteeing that The New Day wouldn’t need to be there to counteract him. So maybe we could see Vince McMahon with some Trouble In Paradise.
SmackDown have by and large nailed it this year.
