WWE WrestleMania 35: The IIconics Are The Best Thieves
During WWE WrestleMania 35, the IIconics stole the win, the show, and our hearts by becoming the new WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions.
For WWE WrestleMania 35, the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships were up for grabs in a fatal four-way match featuring Tamina and Nia, Boss ‘N’ Hug Connection (Sasha Banks and Bayley), the Divas of Doom (Natalya and Beth Phoenix) and the IIconics (Peyton Royce and Billie Kay).
The easiest, and perhaps at the time smartest, choice for the win was Banks and Bayley, who would have retained the titles, had they won.
However, the IIconics caused the upset, and maybe the biggest shock of the night, when they stole the win from Phoenix to snag the tag team titles.
Phoenix hit a Glam Slam off the top rope, holding Bayley for the pinfall, when Royce pulled Phoenix off of Bayley, allowing Kay to steal the pinfall and the win from the Glamazon.
The IIconics didn’t just steal the win, though. The team has stolen the hearts of the WWE Universe over the course of the last few months, and fans have been clamoring for the Women’s Tag Team Championships to become more iconic.
WWE Superstars and critics alike were happy to see the Australian duo holding the belts.
The IIconics’ win gives a new meaning to the tag team title match, which at first, seemed like a guarantee win for Boss ‘N’ Hug Connection, or the stereotypical WrestleMania “legend moment” for the Divas of Doom.
Kay and Royce reminded us what true teamwork looks like, and created one of the biggest moments of the night with a simple bait-and-switch maneuver.
What’s a little theft if it means we finally get to see the pair in the ring more often, right?
