The IIconics got the surprise upset win over Boss ‘N Hug for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles at WWE WrestleMania 35 and frankly, it was the right call.

Many of us predicted for Sasha Banks and Bayley to retain their WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship in their Fatal Four Way match at WWE WrestleMania 35. That would not have been a terrible decision. Just a predictable one and nobody watches Mania for predictable. Satisfyingly expected finishes, yes – which is what the Kofi vs. Bryan finish was – but in the Fatal Four Way’s case, it was just plain predictable.

The difference being that while the WWE Championship match had a finish we were all dying to see despite expecting it, a retain for Boss ‘N Hug had no suspense or emotional investment to it. The finish needed some extra zest to make this match truly memorable and a surprise win for The IIconics is exactly what this match needed.

Apart from just giving us a wonderful surprise for a title change, this actually opens quite a bit of promise for the future. Putting the titles on The IIconics and making Boss ‘N Hug the chasers should make for an interesting feud.

Add to the fact that it opens up the possibility of a split up for the babyface team. Like, for reals this time. Not just another break up one week just to make up the next week. An actual rivalry could be in the cards for Bayley and Banks if they break up again. If WWE actually follow through with such an angle this time, it could be a memorable, fantastic storyline.

Alternatively, if Boss ‘N Hug just retained, there isn’t much storyline potential for anything; nowhere to go from there. At least now, we at least have an intriguing storyline trajectory going forward filled with several possibilities.

Next. The Miz vs. Shane McMahon was brilliant. dark

Plus, truth be told, after everything The IIconics have done over the past year as an entertaining act and often enhancement talent whilst maintaining credibility, they deserved a big win for their hard work.

All things considered, The IIconics winning the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship wasn’t just the right decision. It was ICONIC.
