WrestleMania XII: Shawn Michaels vs. Bret Hart (Iron Man Match for the WWE Championship)

One of the most polarizing matches in WWE history between two of its most polarizing figures, the main event of WrestleMania XII saw Shawn Michaels fulfill his “boyhood dream” after he bested arch-rival Bret Hart following a grueling contest that lasted over an hour.

A common complaint with this match is that it is too slow, but a slower pace is to be expected when one is attempting to run a marathon. That is not to say, however, that this match didn’t have its share of breathtaking moments, including Michaels accidentally superkicking a timekeeper at ringside and Bret Hart managing to lock in the Sharpshooter with less than thirty seconds left on the clock.

Michaels was able to outlast the clock and Hart released the hold, taking his Championship and heading to the back, believing that he had retained due to a draw. WWE President Gorilla Monsoon, however, ordered that the match continue under sudden death rules. An irate Hart returned to the ring to continue punishing Michaels’ back, but the “Heartbreak Kid” managed to mount a comeback.

After two Sweet Chin Musics, the boyhood dream had been achieved, and Shawn Michaels had captured the WWE Championship for the first time.

This match gets a lot of flack and is very much lover it or hate it, but everyone should form their own opinion. Check this one out for sure.
