WrestleMania 22: Edge vs. Mick Foley (Hardcore Match)
Mick Foley’s lack of a proper WrestleMania Moment haunted him during his years of semi-retirement. Luckily for him, right around WrestleMania season in 2006, he was set on a collision course with Edge, newly minted with Lita at his side as a main event heel.
The Rated R Superstar agreed to do things Foley’s way, and the two did battle in an extremely violent match that foreshadowed the ill-advised return of ECW a few months later. This match was downright gruesome at points, with standout spots including Edge hitting Foley full-force in the face with a metal cookie sheet, Edge hitting a Spear only to find that Foley had wrapped himself in barbed wire, Edge taking a nasty spill onto some thumbtacks, and Foley locking Lita in the Mandible Claw with a Mr. Socko wrapped in barbed wire.
The finish of the match was another iconic moment. Foley stood on the apron while Edge was in the ring. Behind Foley, Lita applied lighter fluid to a table and lit it on fire. Edge then proceeded to Spear Foley through the ropes, off the apron, and through the table. Both men crashed and burned and Edge managed to climb on top of Foley for the pinfall.
In the aftermath, Edge looked as if he was traumatized, his eyes bulging from his skull as he convulsed. Foley, meanwhile, bloody as he was, still managed to leave the arena of his own volition, basking in the applause of the fans as he had finally achieved his WrestleMania Moment.
Honorable Mention: Shawn Michaels and Vince McMahon put on a no holds barred brawl of their own that included Michaels diving from the top of a ladder and driving McMahon (who was stuck inside a trash can) through a table with an elbow.
