WrestleMania XXV: The Undertaker vs. Shawn Michaels

Every time that The Undertaker stepped into the ring with Shawn Michaels, the result was undeniably pure magic. Dating back to their clashes in 1997, the two had incredible chemistry, which was later on display in the closing moments of the 2007 Royal Rumble.

By WrestleMania XXV, The Undertaker’s undefeated streak was a thing of legend, and he had begun putting together a string of classics with the likes of Batista and Edge. Thus, fans were understandably ecstatic at the notion of the best performer in WrestleMania history taking on the most successful performer.

The theme of the match was the contrast between light and dark. Michaels entered by descending from the rafters, dressed in white, as an angelic choir sang. Conversely, the Undertaker, the creature of the night, rose from the depths of the floor.

The match featured one of the most frighening moments in recent memory as The Undertaker attempted his trademark suicide dive over the top rope, only for Michaels to pull a nearby cameraman in front of him. The Undertaker, however, had a bit too much momentum and landed right on his head.

Michaels managed to wrestle an almost perfect match, making only one mistake, as he went for a moonsault in the match’s closing moments. The Undertaker managed to catch him and reverse into a Tombstone Piledriver to go 17-0 on The Grandest Stage of Them All.

WWE themselves named this match the greatest match in company history and it is hard to disagree. This is an absolute must see for anyone with even the slightest interest in professional wrestling.
