WrestleMania XXVI: The Undertaker vs. Shawn Michaels (Streak vs. Career Match)

Expectations were impossibly high going into the sequel to The Undertaker and Shawn Michaels’ WrestleMania clash from the year prior. The pair managed, unquestionably, to deliver.

The story of the match was simple. Michaels believed that he would have won the prior year if not for his one mistake. The Undertaker, however, had no interest in a rematch. Michaels then became consumed by the desire to defeat The Undertaker, pledging to win the Royal Rumble and challenge The Undertaker for the World Heavyweight Championship.

When he came up short at the Rumble, Michaels took matters into his own hands, interfering in an Elimination Chamber match to cost the Undertaker the Championship. This led the Undertaker to accept the challenge, on the condition that Michaels would retire if he lost the match.

After another phenomenal match, which featured counter after counter and kickout after kickout, The Undertaker stood over Michaels, ordering him to stay down. Yet, defiant as ever, Michaels clawed his way back to a standing position, looking his rival in the face before delivering a mocking slap. Enraged, the Undertaker grabbed Michaels and delivered one of the most brutal looking Tombstones of all time, raising his streak to 18-0 and ending Michaels’ career.

Two years after ending the WWE career of his hero, Shawn Michaels, Mr. WrestleMania himself, called it a career. This was absolutely a worthy final chapter in his story.
