WWE Raw Results, Highlights, and Grades for April 8, 2019
The episode of WWE Raw after WrestleMania 35 promises to be can’t-miss, and wrestling fans will be anxiously waiting for potential surprises, returns, and call-ups tonight.
There is no doubt that WrestleMania 35 featured several satisfying conclusions, such as Kofi Kingston’s WWE Championship victory, Becky Lynch’s crowning moment in the main event, and Seth Rollins’ epic upset of Brock Lesnar. Lynch and Rollins will be superstars to watch on the WWE Raw after WrestleMania, as they make their first entrances as top champions on the Red Brand.
Lynch will address the WWE Universe after her victory over Charlotte Flair and Ronda Rousey, but their may be some controversy as Rousey’s shoulders appeared to be off of the mat during the roll-up. Can Lynch defend both titles simultaneously, or will Stephanie McMahon unveil unified titles? How will Charlotte and Ronda respond to the result, and will Becky continue to feud with her two biggest rivals? So many questions are left unresolved despite Lynch’s feel-good win to close out WrestleMania 35.
Raw desperately needed a full-time champion at the top of the men’s division, and the WWE Universe finally has a champion it can watch defend the championship night in and night out. In 2018, Seth Rollins made the Intercontinental Championship even more prestigious with amazing matches every Monday night, and, hopefully, he will do the same with the Universal Title.
Finn Balor also won a singles title at WrestleMania 35, making it four-for-four when it comes to new champions on the Red Brand. He defeated Bobby Lashley with relative ease as “The Demon”, making it seem likely that he will move on to a new rival. But who could that be? Perhaps someone like Elias or even Baron Corbin, who was squashed by “The Demon” at SummerSlam, could attempt to come after Raw’s mid-card championship.
On the WrestleMania pre-show, Curt Hawkins and Zack Ryder pulled off a feel-good moment of their own, winning the WWE Raw Tag Team Championships at the expense of The Revival. Ryder has lost a title shortly after a WrestleMania moment, so can he avoid a similar fate on Monday night, especially if Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder come back for the titles?
Finally, Roman Reigns put another exclamation mark on his return by taking care of business against the formidable Drew McIntyre, defeating him in a match that wasn’t as competitive as some wrestling fans expected. McIntyre will surely have something to say to the WWE Universe, but Reigns, of course, made the strongest possible statement with actions that spoke louder than words. Will Reigns give Rollins some rest, or will he come right for the Universal Championship that he was forced to relinquish in October?
Baron Corbin has a reason to gloat after retiring Kurt Angle. The likes of Adam Cole, Kairi Sane, and Bianca Belair are worth watching as possible surprise call-ups after their losses at NXT TakeOver New York. Sami Zayn should head over to SmackDown Live, but WWE fans should still keep an eye out for a possible return from Bray Wyatt tonight.
The WWE Raw after WrestleMania is a special time for wrestling fans, and after last night’s successful ‘Mania, this one will, hopefully, be a home-run.
