Curt Hawkins and Zack Ryder (c) vs. The Revival for the Raw Tag Team Championships
Result: Curt Hawkins and Zack Ryder retain
Last night at WrestleMania 35, Curt Hawkins and Zack Ryder pulled off the unlikeliest of upsets over The Revival to win the Raw Tag Team Championships, and it was a fitting end to Hawkins’s losing streak. But they had to defend the titles against Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder on a quick turn-around at the Raw after WrestleMania, and it didn’t take long for The Revival to pick up an advantage.
Dawson started going to work on Hawkins, who finally got some momentum going for the current champs with a dropkick. The win last night clearly boosted his confidence, but the Revival, one of the world’s elite tag teams, turned the tables with a Hart Attack.
After the break, Hawkins came flying in with a knee on Dawson, and he barely was able to tag Ryder before Wilder got to him. Ryder cleaned house, hitting his signature missile dropkick and firing up the crowd for the Broski Boot.
Hawkins tagged back in and hit a flying elbow on Wilder for a nearfall.
Faking an injury, ?Hawkins nearly caught The Revival off guard with a roll-up, but it was The Revival who nearly stole one with a dirty pin on Ryder for a two-count. Hawkins got hit with a brainbuster on the outside by Dawson, and the challengers hit a HUGE double-team move that Ryder kicked out of. And the crowd was HOT for the nearfall!
Dawson nearly got Ryder again with a roll-up, and they hit him with a Shattered Machine! The problem? Hawkins was the legal man! Seeking the opportunity, Hawkins swooped in for the roll-up, and Hawkins and Ryder retained the title by upsetting The Revival in back-to-back nights!
Grade: A-, I feel for The Revival, but I’m loving Curt Hawkins and Zack Ryder right now. Seeing these two succeed as a tag team again has been a lot of fun, and the crowd enjoyed this match. WWE needs to feature The Revival prominently, though, and that could involve a move to SmackDown.
