Aleister Black and Ricochet vs. Bobby Roode and Chad Gable
Result: Black and Ricochet get the W
Over the weekend, Aleister Black and Ricochet had incredible matches at NXT TakeOver New York against War Raiders and at WrestleMania in a Fatal Four-Way. Chad Gable and Bobby Roode are now hilarious heels, who only say “Glorious” softly, and they will be looking to gain some surprise momentum against the NXT call-ups.
Black did a sit-out in front of a freaked out Gable, but Gable recovered by responding with a straight punch to the throat and a beautiful takedown.
Roode came into the match to deliver some boots to Black, who tagged in Ricochet and gave his partner a chance to build some momentum for the team. Ricochet hit a lovely moonsault to Roode on the outside to fire up the crowd!
Afterwards, Roode sent Ricochet crashing to the outside before the break, saving Gable from what would have been a devastating dive to the outside.
Following the break, Ricochet and Gable had an awesome exchange, with Gable throwing Ricochet into the sky, tagging in Roode to stay on the former North American Champion. Roode sent Ricochet crashing to the canvas with a clothesline.
Isolating Ricochet from Black, Roode and Gable continued to go to work impressively, but Ricochet created an opportunity with some jaw-dropping athleticism.
He was able to tag in Black, who went straight to work on Roode with his own incredible athletic ability. A moonsault on Roode led to a nearfall, and the crowd could feel the momentum in the match shift towards the favored babyfaces.
Roode NEARLY pinned Black with a roll-up, and Roode also kicked out at the last second when Black made his response.
Gable saved the matchup for his team at the last second, dragging Black to the outside to bring on the fists. Though Ricochet tried to get on the top rope for a big move, Roode met him there and bought Gable some time to push Ricochet off the top. Roode came close to pinning Ricochet with his signature spinebuster. Frustrated, he tagged Gable back in the match, and Gable hit a moonsault on Ricochet, with Black needing to save the match.
Though Ricochet and Aleister Black picked up the win, Gable and Roode showed off their heelishness with a cheap attack on Ricochet after the babyface’s win.
Grade: B-, A decent match that further pushes the heel narrative for Chad Gable and Bobby Roode, but, of course, Black and Ricochet did need to win. They are the future.
